A pair of brothers from Freeport have been arrested on charges of stealing $1,800 worth of sneakers from a victim in Roslyn, according to the Nassau County Police Department.
Sixth Squad detectives said in a statement that at 2:45 p.m. on Aug. 9, Christopher Vilca, 21, of 473 S. Long Beach Ave. and his brother, Jean Vilca-Alvites, 19, of the same address, were outside the Roslyn Hotel at 1221 Old Northern Blvd. when they approached a 35-year-old male, whom the police say they “had prior dealings with regarding the purchasing of sneakers,” and “engaged him in a dispute.”
“Vilca-Alvites motioned to the victim that he had a weapon in his waistband and demanded that he hand over cash or the sneakers he had with him in a bag,” the statement said. “Both subjects then grabbed the bag that contained approximately $1,800 worth of sneakers and fled the scene in a black Honda Pilot.”
Later that day, Freeport police located the car, which was occupied by Vilca-Alvites, and arrested him, according to county police.
A subsequent investigation led to the arrest of Vilca, who surrendered to detectives on Wednesday at 12:20 a.m.
Both defendants are charged with two counts of robbery and one count of grand larceny. Vilca-Alvites was arraigned at the Nassau County Courthouse in Mineola on Aug. 10, while Vilca was arraigned on Wednesday. No information on lawyers for either brother could be found on the New York State Unified Court System’s online database.
