Vehicle fire hits homes on Nassau Road

Manhasset-Lakeville volunteer firefighters worked into the frigid night Wednesday, Jan. 23 to control a spreading car fire on Nassau Road.

MLFD Chief James Pitzer called for assistance from three firefighting companies and the ambulance unit while on the scene of a vehicle fire at 5 Nassau Road.

Pitzer’s backup was dispatched at 10:38 p.m, according to an MLFD press release. The fire spread from the car to a detached garage behind 7 Nassau Road, and Company 4’s Engine crew began knocking down the burning brush and debris in the connected back yards of both houses.

As their colleagues fought the flames outdoors in freezing temperatures, the a ladder crew entered the garage and worked to extinguish the blaze.

The MLFD could not be reached for comment on the extent of the damage caused by the fire.

The latest blaze comes less than a week after a fire in a vacant storefront caused police to temporarily shut down Middle Neck Road, and after a late December fire at a home construction site in Saddle Rock led to minor injuries for one firefighter.
